What makes Thalgo different

Thalgo was founded in 1964 by pharmacist André Bouclet, who had a lifelong passion for the regenerating power of the sea. The name combines 'thalassotherapy' and 'algae'. It was the first laboratory to specialise in skincare based on algae and marine extracts, originally developed for the medical world and for wellness centres offering thalassotherapy. In 1966 Bouclet developed a unique method of micronising algae so their active substances are released more effectively, and in the same year he filed a patent for a combination of three micronised algae.

Since 1976 the laboratory has been based on the French Riviera. That setting inspired the brand to wrap its active ingredients in distinctive scents and textures that evoke the sea: efficacy always combined with a sense of wellbeing. Deep in the oceans, marine extracts concentrate active ingredients, minerals and trace elements, which means they can be up to 10,000 times more concentrated than in land plants. Marine molecules also have a bio-affinity with the skin, so they can be absorbed well. A team of pharmacists, microbiologists and biochemists works closely with phycologists and dermatologists on the formulas. All products are made in France and tested under dermatological supervision.

Thalgo has set itself five commitments to help protect the oceans.
