A long and successful history

Dr Alexandre Lamotte founded Maison Académie Scientifique de Beauté in 1890. From the very beginning, the institute enjoyed an excellent reputation, mainly thanks to the carefully devised beauty treatments carried out in its own salon. It was located in one of the most elegant districts of Paris, on the Rue Saint-Honoré. The brand quickly gained worldwide recognition at cosmetics fairs, as Académie went further than most beauty salons and developed new principles in beauty care. Georges Gay, Lamotte's successor, also founded the very first French school of beauty care. In addition, Académie takes a scientific approach. As early as 1934, the brand developed ampoules with active hormones that stimulate cell renewal. In 1936 the institute patented the use of collagen in skincare – a remarkable innovation that remains indispensable in cosmetics today. And this was only the start of many innovations to come. The brand continues to innovate to this day.
