There are several skin concerns around the eyes that we can call under-eye bags. Bags are swellings beneath the eyes caused by a build-up of fat and/or fluid in the lower eyelids. But when the area around your eyes has lost firmness, you can call that bags too. Each variant has its own cause, such as: too little sleep, alcohol and skin ageing. It may also be that under-eye bags simply run in your genes.

What causes under-eye bags?

As mentioned, there are various causes. The skin around your eyes is up to 3 times thinner than on other parts of the face, so the underlying tissue lacks firm connective tissue. Skin ageing also plays a major role in the formation of under-eye bags. This is because the connective tissue slackens and the skin bulges above the eye socket. In addition, a disruption of the body's normal rhythm can lead to fluid retention. Think of: lack of sleep, stress, dehydration, colds, UV radiation, tobacco and alcohol use and an unbalanced diet.

Which active ingredients help with under-eye bags?

Which care routine reduces under-eye bags?

You cannot prevent (age-related) under-eye bags, but you can reduce them. It is better to use an eye cream every day. To cool and hydrate the eye area even more, we recommend using eye masks, for example with hyaluronic acid or aloe vera. For an extra decongesting effect, keep the eye masks in the fridge. Also use a sun protection product every day to protect yourself against strong UV radiation. If your under-eye bags are genetic, the measures above will unfortunately only help to a limited extent. In that case, a surgical procedure can reduce under-eye bags.
